Evening Standard calling
Tuesday evening, received a surprise call from a reporter at London's Evening Standard newspaper asking if I would be willing to contribute to the readers' views this week. Bit taken aback as it was the last thing I expected at such short notice. The old cliche about flattery certainly worked on me - Thought why not at least somebody out there values my opinion.Quick interview on the phone, an email to me with the notes - I added a few points, zapped it back and left it at that. A real rush job didn't quite know how it would turn out. After 10pm received another call to say all done and it would be in print yesterday.
Great trepidation, I opened the paper and there it was on page 45. Very clever those media guys. Cutting down the words to one where I said five it came out neatly edited with my name at the bottom. Didn't really expect people would notice, a big mistake. So many supporting calls and emails today have really surprised me. My friend's wife who owns the shop across the road, even saved some of the unsold papers so I could cut it out.
Well until the next time.....
