What's all the fuss about the Peers list?

Yes, I am a Liberal Democrat and proud to be part of the party that is changing the political face of British politics.

Every year we have the party elections. The voters are the conference reps. Most of the names on the ballot sheets are just faces to the majority of members. So how do they choose the names? Unfortunately it is often by name recognition. The result being the same old names get elected year in and year out.
Personally I feel that there should be a term limit on all elective party positions. I know others will disagree with me.

The saddest thing is that some people only stand for positions to get their name known but when it comes to actual work they are always in the back ground.

Now we have the Peers List. This is 30 names of people who have been nominated supposedly for the Leader to select from. What a big fuss is being made of the whole thing.

I cannot think of anything more embarrassing. Call me old fashioned but to be a Peer of the Realm is an honour not something to be sought after to make a name for oneself.

I just hope that when it is time to select the next batch of Peers, our leader chooses those he feels deserves the honour and not because they are on any list.

The results are in the public domain on the Party website so have a peek.

E-mail revolution is it worth it?

Email is brilliant for keeping in touch with people. However if like myself one is involved with politics they never stop. I dread going away for a few days. The emails keep pouring in and yes, I have a folder sorting system which can be quite funny sometimes just watching the folder numbers keep increasing as the emails download.

Then to start answering them all that's another story..............

If one does not respond you always get the awkward one who telephones late at night demanding to know why you have not responded.

To be politically correct one has to be nice and polite on the phone. I sometimes wonder how some people would react if I transcribed some of my thoughts into words. "Get off your high-horse and wait in the queue."
